The team of the Minister of Ecological Evolution and Demographic Challenge, Teresa Ribera, has denied the request of data center companies established in Spain to enjoy the benefits of electro-intensive companies , a privilege that metallurgy and chemical groups do enjoy. , steel or ceramics.
According
to the Association of Companies with high energy consumption (AEGE) ,
"the electro- intensive sector is the one made up of
those industries for which electricity is a primary factor in their
process." Data centers support the needs of the digital world, so it
is essential to provide an adequate framework of specific energy initiatives
for this energy-demanding sector.
The
meeting, which was held during the month of February headed by the Secretary of
State for Energy, with the presence of the Economic Vice-presidency of
Nadia Calviño in an intermediary role, as a link so that the strains
of data center companies were attended by the Ecological Vice-Presidency of
Ribera.
The
refusal has been a blow to the industry in our country. However, as
reported by the newspaper EL MUNDO, sources from the Organization of Ecological
Transition point out that the last word is that of Industry, Business and
Tourism . "Compensation aid for electrointensives are state
aid and as such must be based on any of the European regulatory
guidelines," they maintain from the department headed by Reyes Maroto,
from where it refers to the business activities contained within in Royal
Decree 1106 / 2020: "The sectors must be productive sectors, subject to a
relevant international trade exposure, thus at risk of carbon leakage".
According
to studies by energy consultants, the average price in € / kWh of the regulated
part in the European countries where the FLAPs are located, shows that in Spain
we have a high cost of energy. Ahead, only Germany and the United Kingdom
surpass us, while in our country electricity is 80% more expensive than in the
Netherlands and 30% higher in France.
